Paul Caffyn

Paul Caffyn (* 1946 ) is a New Zealand canoeist who circled numerous islands in a sea kayak .

Caffyn worked as a geologist in the lignite mining of his home in Runanga on the west coast of New Zealand.

Kayak expeditions

1978: Bypassing the South Island of New Zealand. The expedition started along the fjord coast together with Max Reynolds. Later, with shore assistance, Caffyn paddled on alone and completed the bypass in 76 days.
1978/79: bypassing the North Island of New Zealand; Solo tour with shore support in 86 days followed by a sea kayak crossing of the Cook Strait
1979: Stewart Island bypass , New Zealand; joint expedition with Max Reynolds in August and September 1979, starting from Bluff with a crossing of Foveaux Street
1980: Great Britain bypassed . Together with Nigel Dennis, Caffyn circumnavigated Great Britain in 85 days.
1981/82: Circumnavigation of Australia in 361 days, only repeated by Freya Hoffmeister in 2009 after him
1985: Solo bypass of the four main islands of Japan : Hokkaidō in the north, the central and largest island Honshū and then to the south, the islands Shikoku and Kyūshū
1991: Driving the entire coastline of Alaska
1997: New Caledonia bypass
