Paul Elvinger

Paul Elvinger (born October 14, 1907 in Walferdingen , † December 1, 1982 in Luxembourg) was a Luxembourg lawyer and politician ( DP ).

Life

Paul Elvinger was the son of the trader André Elvinger and his wife Catherine May. He studied law in Strasbourg, Brussels and Paris. In 1932 he obtained a doctorate in law . He then settled in Luxembourg as a lawyer. In 1935 he married Jeanne Elisabeth Trierweiler. From 1936 to 1937 he was President of the Conference du Jeune Barreau de Luxembourg. He lost his job in World War II and was deported to the Schreckenstein camp in March 1943 . After his repatriation in April 1945, he worked for the cabinet of Interior Minister Robert Als until March 1946.

Elvinger was a member of the Luxembourg City Council from 1953 to 1959. From 1959 to 1964 he was Minister for Justice, Economy and Middle Classes in the Werner - Schaus I government . From 1964 to 1968 and 1969 to 1979 he was a member of the Luxembourg parliament. There he headed, among other things, the Commission for Foreign Affairs and the Commission for Economy and Small Business. For a time he was Vice President of Parliament and from 1969 to 1974 chairman of the Democratic Party. From 1969 to 1974 he was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of the Western European Union . In 1982 Elvinger died in Luxembourg at the age of 75.
