Paul Evdokimov

Paul Evdokimov , originally Russian Павел Николаевич Евдокимов , Pawel Nikolajewitsch Evdokimov (born August 2, 1901 in Saint Petersburg , † September 1, 1970 in Meudon ) was an Orthodox theologian . He was professor of theology at the Institut de Théologie Orthodoxe Saint-Serge in Paris .

Life

Evdokimov came from a noble Saint Petersburg family. When Paul was six years old, his father was murdered. First he studied theology in Kiev . He fled to Paris and graduated from the Institut de Théologie Orthodoxe Saint-Serge with a degree in theology . He married and had two children. Evdokimov received his PhD on Dostoyevsky's letters and the problem of evil at the Faculty of Literature, University of Aix-en-Provence . His wife died in 1945. In 1954 he married the daughter of a Japanese diplomat. From 1962 he was professor of theology at the after St. Sergius named institute in Paris.

Evdokimov was a well-known theologian in exile and was invited as an observer to the Second Vatican Council .
