Paul Fischer (photographer)

Paul Albert Fischer (born February 3, 1872 in Tübingen ; † July 23, 1947 there ) was a Tübingen photographer , real estate agent , and a councilor of Tübingen.

Life

Paul Fischer was a son of Robert Fischer and his wife Pauline geb. Dollinger. On August 6, 1896, he married Elisabetha Köber, who came from there, in Wertheim , with whom he later had a child. He probably came from a wealthy family, maybe his wife also contributed to the prosperity, because he owned two houses at the beginning of the 20th century. On Friday, August 19, 1903, he opened his modernly equipped studio in the large, representative residential and commercial building at Mühlstrasse 14. At this point he was already 31 years old. Nothing is known about his professional career until then. He must have completed an apprenticeship as a photographer and a master craftsman's examination, because he was listed as a photographer in the residents' registry - even later. The lavishly built studio was on the top floor. Fischer specialized in portraits. But he also offered group and club photos that could be taken outside the studio, as well as landscape and architecture photos. But he also offered simple services such as reproductions. Despite the modern equipment, his studio did not achieve the importance that the long-established ateliers Julius Wilhelm Hornung or Christian Barth had.

After ten years, Fischer gave up his job: in 1913 he sold the studio to Arthur Gröger. At this point in time he moved to his house on the Österberg at Staufenstrasse (today Stauffenbergstrasse ) 47 and began to work as a real estate agent. Presumably he found the work of photography too stressful. He paid trade tax from his brokerage work. These rather smaller amounts indicate that he was not doing this activity intensively. For this he got involved socially and politically. For many years he was chairman of the fruit and horticultural association as well as board member and managing director of the house owners association. He was a member of the German People's Party (DVP) and as a representative of this party he was elected to the Tübingen municipal council in 1923. In 1928 he was also chairman of the three-member parliamentary group. He was a member of the municipal council until the self-dissolution forced by the National Socialists on March 31, 1933. He gave up brokerage in June 1934 at the age of 62. Since then he has been living in seclusion in his house on the Österberg as a private citizen. He later moved to Frondsbergstrasse 5. Fischer died after a brief, unexpected illness in the Tübingen surgical clinic. The cause of death was poor circulation due to peritonitis and "myodeg cordis".
