Paul Gans (born May 26, 1951 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German geographer . He currently holds a professorship (C-4) for human geography with a focus on economic geography at the University of Mannheim .

Scientific career

Paul Gans studied geography and mathematics in Mannheim. After completing the second state examination and a position as a geography and mathematics teacher at a Ludwigshafen grammar school, Jürgen Bähr brought him to Kiel as an assistant . Gans did his doctorate and habilitation at Bähr on urban geography topics. After completing his habilitation, Gans worked for a while at the Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig (IFL) before becoming a professor at the University of Education (PH) in Erfurt . In 1996 Gans was appointed to succeed Christoph Jentsch at the University of Mannheim. Gans now heads the Department of Economic Geography in the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Mannheim.
