Paul Hentzner

Paul Hentzner (born January 29, 1558 in Crossen , Silesia , † January 1, 1623 in Oels ) was a German lawyer and travel writer .

As tutor of the young Silesian nobleman Christoph von Rehdiger (1579–1636), he traveled with him from May 1596 to Switzerland, France, England and Italy and returned to Silesia in 1600 via Tyrol.

In 1612, Hentzner published a travel description in Latin in Nuremberg: Itinerarium Germaniae, Galliae, Angliae, Italiae, cum Indice Locorum, Rerum atque Verborum.

Horace Walpole had Hentzner's description of England translated into English. It appeared in England in 1797 under the title Hentzner's Travels and became a major source of the Elizabethan Age . Hentzner describes in detail the everyday life of the London population, customs and traditions and his impressions of the Queen's court.
