Paul Kaiser (theologian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Paul Kaiser (born December 19, 1852 in Züllichau , † December 17, 1917 in Leipzig ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran pastor, writer and songwriter.

Life

Paul Kaiser was the son of the Züllichau cloth manufacturer Johann Gotthilf Kaӳser and his wife, the cloth manufacturer's daughter Florentina Emilia Maria Kayser, née. Cuckoo. He began his professional career as a pastor at the Lutheran Church in Neusalz in Silesia. From there he moved to the "Mercy Church of the Holy Trinity" in Sagan in Silesia. There he married Marie Johanne Amalie Auguste Offelsmeyer in 1888 (born September 15, 1858 in Herford, † August 10, 1915 in Leipzig). She was a daughter of the Herford pastor Wilhelm Ernst Theodor Offelsmeyer. From 1884 onwards, Kaiser was chief pastor of the “ German St. Gerdruds Congregation ” in Stockholm for six years . Finally he moved to the St. Matthäi parish in Leipzig, where he died in 1917.

On the occasion of the anniversary years of Gustav Adolf II , Philipp Melanchthon , Paul Gerhard and Martin Luther, Kaiser wrote widespread “descriptions” of their lives, which were intended to bring them closer to the Protestants - or, in the case of Martin Luther, the Protestant youth. His play about Gustav Adolf II was performed simultaneously in 60 German cities in 1894.

Living in the age of the establishment of the “children's worship service” in the Protestant churches, he wrote songs and writings for it at Georg Rietschel's request , which were also published in Swedish, for example “Sådana hörer Guds rike till” (1902) and “Tio Guds bud "(1902). From Paul Kaiser’s extensive collection of songs, his morning song “Aus des Himmelsuchten Toren” was included in the Protestant “ Hymnal for the Province of Saxony and Anhalt ” published in 1933 .

His own sermons, travel stories and legends can also be found among Kaiser's published works. Many of his works reached multiple editions.

family

Paul Kaiser's children were Astrid Henrich-Kaiser, Dora Hedlund, b. Kaiser, Hans Kaiser and Ulrich Kaiser.
