Paul Koretz

Paul Koretz (born September 12, 1885 in Vienna , † January 7, 1980 in Hollywood , United States ) was an Austrian artist agent and film company manager.

The son of the Prague general manager Julius Koretz (1848–1911) and his wife Clara studied law up to their doctorate and then specialized in film law and copyright issues as a specialist lawyer. In the Berlin of the Weimar Republic , Koretz was a representative of Fox-Europa, the European branch of Fox Film Corporation . After taking power in Germany and five years later in Austria, the Jew Koretz fled via England to the USA in 1938, where he arrived on December 30, 1939. In Hollywood, Paul Koretz got a job with MGM . In 1940 the exile founded the Playmarket Agency artist agency with colleague George Marton , but returned to MGM in 1941.

From 1948 Paul Koretz worked as a freelance film agent in Hollywood, where he stayed until the end of his life in early 1980. In his long life, Paul Koretz maintained lively correspondence with artistic personalities from music, literature and theater, including Paul Dessau , Alma Mahler-Werfel , Paul Abraham , Franz Lehár , Jakob Wassermann , Erwin Piscator , Bruno Frank , Wilhelm Furtwängler , Emmerich Kálmán and Erich Wolfgang Grain gold . His son Paul Koretz junior (born 1955) is a well-known local politician from West Hollywood, who has made a name for himself as a human rights activist and caused a stir when he applied for impeachment proceedings against US President George W. Bush in 2006 .
