Paul Ladd

Paul Ladd is a British economist, UN official and, since 2015, Director of the UN Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) in Geneva .

education

Paul Ladd holds a B.Sc. Degree in economics at the University of Warwick , followed by an M.Sc. in “Quantitative Development Economics” at the same university.

Career

Paul Ladd initially worked as a manager at the British charity Christian Aid , responsible for economics and politics. He became an advisor to the UK Department of Development for Botswana , Lesotho , Namibia , South Africa and Swaziland and worked as a financial advisor to the Central Bank of Guyana .

He then moved to the UK Treasury, where he was responsible for international development during the UK Presidency of the G8 and the European Union in 2005.

From 2006 to 2015 he worked at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Initially, he headed the strategy team for inclusive globalization with a focus on trade, financing of development and migration. During the global financial crisis , he worked in an advisory capacity for the office of the UN Secretary General from 2008 . He also supported this with regard to the UN engagement within the G20 . Most recently, he was director of the UNDP team, which is responsible for the advice and technical support for the 2030 development agenda .

On July 23, 2015, Paul Ladd was appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to succeed Sarah Cook as Director of the UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD). In this function, he is also a member of the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) and the UNITAR 2030 Advisory Board .

Honors

In 2016 Paul Ladd received an honorary doctorate in law (LLD) from the University of Warwick.

Private

Ladd is a declared supporter of International Gender Champions , an organization that has made gender equality its task in international organizations.
