Paul Leidinger (historian)

Paul Leidinger (born September 4, 1932 in Werl ) is a German historian and history teacher. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Münster .

Life

Paul Leidinger studied history , German , philosophy and Catholic theology from 1953 to 1958 . Then he entered the school service. Most recently he worked as director of studies at the Laurentianum High School in Warendorf until 1978 . In addition, from 1964 to 1976 he was in charge of the city and district archives in Warendorf . From 1972 to 1986 he was chairman of the state association of North Rhine-Westphalian history teachers and from 1986 to 1988 national chairman of the association of history teachers in Germany .

In 1963 he received his doctorate from the University of Münster. The habilitation followed in 1972 at the Pedagogical University of Westphalia-Lippe in Münster. There he taught from 1972 to 1978 as a private lecturer. In 1978 he was appointed professor for recent and recent history and didactics of history at the University of Education in Münster. After its integration into the University of Münster, he taught there from 1980 to 1997.

In 1972 he was a founder and until 1986 the main director of the magazine " Geschichte, Politik und seine Didaktik ". In the 1970s and 1980s he took part in the German-Polish textbook discussions. Between 1977 and 1982 he was a member of the specialist commission for the reorganization of the study and examination regulations for history at the Ministry of Culture and Science in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Leidinger is a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia (since 1972) and was a member of the board of directors of the Association for History and Archeology of Westphalia (Münster Department) . From 1996 to 2018 he was President of the German-Turkish Society Münster from 1916.

His main research interests are the Westphalian regional history, and he is particularly regarded as an expert on the Counts of Werl , educational and cultural history, history didactics, environmental history and German, European and Turkish contemporary history.
