Paul Levitz

Paul Levitz (born October 21, 1956 in Brooklyn , New York City) is an American publishing director and comic book author. From 2002 to 2009 Levitz was head of the DC Comics publishing house , a subsidiary of the Time Warner Group.

Paul Levitz is the son of Hannah and Alfred Levitz. After attending Stuyvesant High School, he began studying at his hometown university , New York University . He finally dropped out of his studies prematurely to accept a full-time position as a publishing editor at DC-Comics, where he was one of the most important employees of the publishing company from the mid-1970s until 2009: Levitz is editor, vice-president and finally president of DC For almost three decades in a leading position responsible for the fortunes of some of the most famous comic characters ever, such as Superman , Batman , Wonder Woman , the Swamp Thing and Green Lantern .

Together with his long-time boss Jenette Kahn and the Managing Editor of DC, Dick Giordano , Levitz was responsible for the general overhaul of numerous series and characters in DC's inventory in the 1980s, which were written by such authors and on the instructions of Kahn / Levitz / Giordano Drawers such as John Byrne , Alan Moore , Frank Miller , George Perez, Keith Giffen and Marv Wolfman have been freed from their decades-old history and adapted to the new times.

As publisher's president and vice-president, Levitz was also largely responsible for the coordination and organization of the cinematic and television adaptations of numerous DC material through feature films and television series, most of which were implemented by other Time Warner subsidiaries such as Warner Brothers Studios. For example the Batman and Superman films of the 1970s and 1980s, the Batman films of the 1990s, films like V for Vendetta or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen , cartoons like Batman: The Animated Series or the youth series Smallville .

As an author, Levitz gained particular attention for his longstanding authorship of the series The Legion of Super-Heroes about a group of teenage superheroes from the 30th century, from 1974 to 1989 . Another important series for which Levitz worked was the All-American Comics , for which he wrote the Justice Society and Lucien the Librarian features , with Joe Staton and Nestor Redondo, respectively, as draftsmen.

Levitz has been married since 1980, has three children and lives in Chappaqua , New York.
