Chappaqua is located in the south of the state of New York, borders the Valhalla in the south and is about 45 kilometers north of the center of New York City . The Taconic State Parkway runs to the west, Interstate 684 to the east and the Saw Mill River Parkway runs right through the village , each in a north-south direction.

history

In the 1720s, Quakers settled in the place called sha-pah-ka by the Indians , which means "land where the leaves rustle in the wind". The Quakers called the place Shapiqua, Shapaqua, Shapequa, Shappaqua and finally Chappaqua. It became a popular meeting place for the Quakers until today. In addition, Chappaqua developed as a quiet and exclusive residential area to the nearby metropolis of New York City. Hillary and Bill Clinton , for example, have settled there.

The historic structures Church of Saint Mary the Virgin and Greeley Grove , Chappaqua Railroad Depot and Depot Plaza and Horace Greeley House as well as the Old Chappaqua Historic District are registered on the National Register of Historic Places .
