Paul Mescal
Paul Mescal (* 1996 in Maynooth , County Kildare ) is an Irish actor .
Life
Paul Mescal grew up in Maynooth , County Kildare . During school he played Gaelic football , he gave up the sport after an injury. A drama training he received at the Trinity College Dublin belonging Lir Academy , which he graduated from in 2017 with a Bachelor.
He then performed at various theaters, including at the Gate Theater as Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby and as Prince in The Red Shoes after Hans Christian Andersen . In 2018 he was seen in The Plow and The Stars at the Lyric Theater Hammersmith in London and played Demetrius in the Midsummer Night's Dream at the Kilkenny Arts Festival . In early 2020 he premiered with Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore at the Gaiety Theater in Dublin.
In the Hulu / BBC series adaptation of the novel Normal People by Sally Rooney (2020), he played the male lead Connell at the side of Daisy Edgar-Jones as Marianne. For his performance, he was nominated for best leading actor in a miniseries at the Primetime Emmy Awards 2020 . He also received a TV Choice Award nomination for best actor.
At the end of July 2020, Mescal sang a duet with Dermot Kennedy at the Natural History Museum in London. In August 2020, The Rolling Stones released a music video for their song Scarlet, starring Paul Mescal, who is dancing through Claridge’s Hotel in London in the clip .
