Paul Rosenius

Johan Anders Martin Paul Rosenius (born March 12, 1865 in Gothenburg , Sweden , † July 5, 1957 in Malmö ) was a Swedish doctor, ornithologist, animal photographer and writer.

Life

Paul Rosenius was the son of the theologian Martin Rosenius (1825–1901) and the nephew of the preacher Carl Olof Rosenius (1816–1868). In 1887 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts at Lund University and in 1895 his medical license in Malmö . During his student days, he was a member of the student associations De unga gubbarna ("The Young Men") and Tuakotteriet , in which the socialist Bengt Lidforss (1868-1913) played an important role. Rosenius described this phase of his life in the books De unga gubbarne (1909) and Mitt gamla Lund och andra minnen (1952). Rosenius published several travel and nature accounts.

He also had a great interest in bird watching. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of bird photography in Sweden, whose magazine series Sveriges fåglar och fågelbon (“Sweden's birds and nests”), published between 1913 and 1949 and consisting of 255 issues , achieved great fame. Rosenius was also involved in nature conservation issues and reported on them in newspaper articles.
