Paul Roux (Romanist)

Paul Roux (born February 7, 1921 in La Crau , † January 29, 1991 in Fréjus ) was a French Romanist and Provençalist .

life and work

Paul Roux was the son of the historian and Provençalist Gustave Roux (1895-1976). Roux was a high school teacher in Arles , Draguignan and Saint-Raphaël . He received his doctorate in 1967 from the University of Aix-en-Provence with the Thèse de 3e Cycle Étude sur les noms de lieux du terroir d'Hyères and completed his habilitation in 1970 at the Sorbonne with the Thèse Étude sur le parler de Fréjus et de sa proche région ( 2 vols., Lille 1972).

Roux was from 1976 Majoral (Academician) of Félibrige and from 1982 to 1989 Capoulié (Chairman).
