Paul Schmidt-Branden

Paul Schmidt-Branden (born August 19, 1885 in Berlin ; † January 27, 1955 ) was a German bank manager .

Schmidt-Branden attended Sophiengymnasium in Berlin and then completed an apprenticeship at the export company Hecht, Pfeiffer & Co. His path then took him to Antwerp for a year and a quarter to the printing paper factory Papeteries Anversoises. After returning to Berlin, he began studying at the commercial college, which he graduated with a diploma in 1909.

He joined the Dresdner Bank as a volunteer . In 1915 he was given the task of establishing and managing the branch in Aachen. In 1917 he returned to the head office as a deputy director, was a deputy member from 1920 and a full member of the board from 1925. His main task was the administration of the branch network, which he significantly expanded.

As director of Dresdner Bank in Berlin, he was a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Schiff- und Maschinenbau Aktiengesellschaft (Deschimag), Dürrkoppwerke AG, Maxhütte , NSU Vereinigte Fahrradwerke AG and Norddeutsche Wollkämmerei & Kammgarnspinnerei AG ( north wool ) in 1929/30 In 1931 she was unable to repay her loans. Schmidt-Branden and Herbert Gutmann were accused by the press of being responsible for Dresdner Bank's economic difficulties. Because of loss-making loan commitments, the board members Schmidt-Branden and Georg Mosler were not reappointed in 1931 after the entire board of directors of Dresdner Bank had to resign under pressure from the Reich government .

After the National Socialists came to power, he left Germany. He had been a citizen of Liechtenstein since 1937 . He then worked for the Prince of Liechtenstein and was ennobled by the same. After living and working in Mauren (Liechtenstein) for a while , he finally settled in Ascona-Moscia (Ticino). His grave is in Locarno (Ticino).
