Paul Schulz (born August 29, 1937 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a Protestant theologian and an atheist publicist who has been active in adult education since 1995.

Live and act

He graduated from the Johanneum Scholars' School in Hamburg. He completed his theology studies with a doctorate on the subject of the teacher of justice in the Qumran roles at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen. From 1970 he was pastor ( Archidiakonos ) of the main church Sankt Jacobi (Hamburg) . Because of his denial of crucial Christian doctrines, the "Hamburg church rebel" or "heretic pastor" was first put on leave in 1975 and then the VELKD initiated a doctrinal complaint against him, the first heretic trial in the Lutheran church against one incumbent pastor after the first World war . His book Is God a Mathematical Formula? This belief process ended in 1979 with the loss of all ordination rights . His theological doctorate remained fully valid.

After he was released from the pastor's office, Schulz also left the church. He initially took over the program management of the Markthalle cultural center . In 1981 he moved to the senior management of Bavaria-St. Pauli brewery . In 1995 he founded the private senior academy in Alstertal , which he still heads today.

In recent years Paul Schulz has emerged as an atheist publicist several times . In 2006 his book Codex Atheos was published. The Power of Atheism , 2008 his book Atheistic Belief. A philosophy of life without God . In 2012 he started the Internet portal Atheodoc - An Atheistic Encyclopedia for Modern Enlightenment .

In 2011 he applied to the ecclesiastical court to repeal the disciplinary judgment against him, not in order to become a pastor again, but to again prove the correctness of his modern theological criticism of the old dogma of the church. In 2011, the VELKD Chamber of Arbitration rejected his application due to procedural requirements.
