history

In 1897 the brewery was founded in the city of Altona . Her ancestor is the Dutchman Peter I. de Voss, who brewed beer in Altona as early as 1647. In 1922 the Bavaria brewery merged with the Actien brewery from Hamburg-St. Pauli to Bavaria-St. Pauli brewery. In 1932 the brewery in Altona was closed and the company's headquarters were relocated from Altona to Hamburg. The Jever brewery was modernized and enlarged on a large scale. Bavaria-St. Pauli beer. It was not until 1934 that “Jever Pilsener” was sold for the first time under its name, which is still valid today.

In 1990 there was another change of company. The Bavaria-St. Pauli Brewery and with it the Frisian Brewery in Jever switched to Gebr. März AG, from where it was sold to Brau und Brunnen AG in 1994 . The Elbschloss-Brauerei GmbH, which belongs to the same group, was transferred to Bavaria-St. Pauli-Brauerei AG integrated.

In February 1997 the board of directors of Brau und Brunnen AG decided to close the Hamburg location after a number of previously acquired locations had been closed due to a lack of profitability. The resistance of the company management, the workforce and the works council ultimately led to the sale of the Hamburg brewery to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on January 1, 1998. The Frisian brewery in Jever remained with Brau und Brunnen AG. Finally, the Holsten-Brauerei AG acquired with effect from December 22, 1998 what is now called Bavaria-St. Pauli-Brauerei GmbH was a company. In 1998, an average of 220 people were employed in production, administration and sales.

The plant was closed in 2003 and the buildings have since been demolished. In the following years three high-rise buildings were built on the former brewery site. Products

The company's largest and most important brand was Astra with the Urtyp, Pilsener and Exclusiv varieties. For the ZDF series Das Erbe der Guldenburgs , which u. a. played in the brewery milieu, Bavaria-St. Pauli brewery vehicles and premises are available.
