Paul Cline Strasburger, Baron Strasburger (born July 31, 1946 ) is a British liberal democratic politician, millionaire, philanthropist and early retired businessman.

Political activities with the Liberal Democrats

Strasburger has been involved in the Liberal Democratic Party since 2005. On January 10, 2011, as Baron Strasburger , of Langridge in the County of Somerset, he was raised to a life peer and thereby received a seat in the House of Lords , which he took up on January 12, 2011 first took.

Strasburger was an important donor for the Liberal Democrats. Prior to his appointment to the House of Lords , he had donated a total of £ 709,900 to the Liberal Democrats from 2006-2010, including £ 483,625 to the Central Party, £ 170,719 to his constituency in Bath , and smaller sums to Liberal Democrats Menzies Campbell , Don Foster and Chris Huhne , as well as parties in the constituencies of Wells , Eastleigh, and North East Somerset . Strasburger also helped defend Michael Brown , a now convicted fraud who donated £ 2,400,000 to the Liberal Democrats between February 10 and March 30, 2005 and who fled. Strasburger had also provided Brown's bail, which was forfeited when Brown fled.

In March 2015, he temporarily resigned voluntarily from the Liberal Democrats faction in the House of Lords and also stopped his efforts to obtain party donations. In a political documentary, he says, he was set up by the television station Channel 4 , in which he explained how to bypass the strict party donation requirements. The broadcaster also documented that the party then accepted, following Strasbourg's advice, a sum of £ 10,000 and that party chairman Nick Clegg met the donor acting on behalf of the party . The state election commission will now investigate the case further at Strasburger's request. Strasbourg himself asserts that he has not done anything illegal.
