Paul Volz

Paul Volz (born October 14, 1871 in Lichtenstern , † May 30, 1941 in Tübingen ) was a German Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar.

Life

After studying Protestant theology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin , Volz passed the theological exams. In 1898 he was a repetiteur at the Tübingen monastery and in 1902 took up a pastor's position in Leonberg . Since 1907 Paul Volz was a private lecturer in Tübingen. From 1909 to 1914 he held a newly established Extraordinariat for the Old Testament. From 1914 to 1941 he was Professor of the Old Testament. In 1919 he became an honorary philistine at the Tübingen Wingolf . Volz made two trips to Palestine in 1905 and 1912.

Teaching

Paul Volz was a representative of the School of Religious History . He interpreted the Jewish festival of Sukkot as " Yahweh 's New Year ", comparable to the Babylonian New Year. Together with Wilhelm Rudolph , he wrote the monograph The Elohist as Narrator, an important historical research monograph , a mistake in the Pentateuch criticism (1933).
