Paul Winkhaus

Paul Winkhaus (born December 28, 1862 in Oeckinghausen ; † May 13, 1933 in Bad Wildungen ) was a German doctor and politician ( DDP ).

Winkhaus was the son of the businessman Hermann Heinrich Winkhaus and his wife Lina née von Berg. He attended elementary school in Oeckinghausen and then the higher middle school in Halver. From 1877 to 1882 he attended grammar school in Soest, where he graduated from high school. Winkhaus studied medicine in Bonn, Freiburg im Breisgau and Marburg. There he passed his state examination in the winter semester of 1887/88 and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. He became a specialist in urinary disorders and was assistant to the privy councilor Dr. med. Wolrad Marc in Nieder-Wildungen. In 1890 he settled there as a doctor. In the winter semester of 1890/91 he continued his education in his specialty at the University of Vienna. He married Clara Emilie Berghaus from Oberbrügge / West on April 13, 1891 in Halver. From 1896 to 1933 he was chief physician at the "Helenenheim" hospital. He was honored with the title of Medical Council.

In the Empire he belonged to the Progressive People's Party and was a speaker for his party in many election campaigns. After the November Revolution he was one of the founders of the DDP and stood in the election for the constitution-making Waldeck-Pyrmont state representation in 1919 as its top candidate.

From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the DDP and President of the Landtag in the Waldeck-Pyrmont constitution- making state representation . After leaving the Landtag, Jakob Euler took over and Heinrich Kramer became the new President of the Landtag.

He was a city councilor and mayor of Bad Wildungen for many years.
