Life

In the Anglo-Scottish Wars he fought on the side of Scotland against England in 1549 and contributed with James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran to the liberation of Haddington ( Haddingtonshire ).

La Barthe defended Parma against the imperial army in 1550. With the Architetto della Repubblica di Siena , Giovanni Battista Pelori, he drafted the plans for the defense of the northern part of the city walls of Siena from 1552–1553 . Here the position Castellaccia near the Porta Camollia was expanded.

La Barthe, who only retired at the age of 75, tended to be reckless in his warfare at times, which led to his defeat in his last battle at Gravelines (1558). In the same year he was appointed Marshal of France (French: Maréchal de France ) under the French King Henry II , and in 1559 he was appointed military governor of Paris .
