Paulina of the Heart of Jesus in agony (Portuguese: Paulina do Coração Agonizante de Jesus , usually Amabile Lucia Visintainer or Santa Paulina ) (* December 16, 1865 in Vigolo Vattaro , Welschtirol , today Italy ; † July 9, 1942 in Ipiranga , São Paulo , Brazil ), real name Amabile Lucia Wisenteiner (today written Visintainer ), was an Italian-Brazilian, actually Austro-Hungarian-Brazilian founder of the order and saint .
Life
Amabile Wisenteiner, whose poor family emigrated from Welschtirol to Brazil in 1875 , looked after the sick at an early age and taught children the catechism . In 1890 she founded the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (Portuguese: Irmãzinhas da Imaculada Conceição ) and took the religious name Paulina of the Heart of Jesus in agony . She was appointed first general superior in 1903 , but lost the office due to internal difficulties. In the last years of her life, she had serious health problems because of her years of diabetes, so that her right arm had to be amputated.
Paulina was by Pope John Paul II. On 18 October 1991 beatified and on May 19, 2002 canonized . She is considered the first Brazilian woman to be canonized. Her feast day in the liturgy is July 9th .
