Paulo Castilho

Paulo Guilherme Pires de Lima de Castilho (born February 10, 1944 in Matosinhos , Portugal ) is a Portuguese diplomat and writer , primarily a novelist .

Life

Castilho comes from a family of diplomats and writers. His parents were the diplomat and essayist Guilherme de Castilho and his mother the writer Marta de Lima . He spent his school days in South Africa , Macau , Hong Kong and Lisbon .

He studied law at the University of Lisbon and then went to the Portuguese diplomatic service . He worked at the Portuguese Embassy in Washington, DC (1970–1971) and at the Portuguese Embassy in London (1980–1985). Then he himself became Portuguese ambassador to Sweden and Latvia from 1995 , and from 2005 to Ireland .

Castilho was u. a. awarded the Eça de Queiroz and Fernando Namora literature awards.
