Pawel Nikolajewitsch Podkolsin ( Russian Павел Николаевич Подкользин , born January 15, 1985 in Novosibirsk , Soviet Union ) is a Russian basketball player . The 2.26 m tall center player was active in the NBA for two years and has since played in Russia.

Club career

Podkolzin started his career with the Russian second division club Sibirtelecom Lokomotiv Novosibirsk . In December 2001 he moved to the traditional Italian club Pallacanestro Varese , where he was active for two years. In the run-up to the 2004 NBA draft , Podkolzin was considered a potential candidate for a high draft placement due to his size and strength in defense. In the subsequent draft, however, he was initially selected by the Utah Jazz in 21st place and sold directly to the Dallas Mavericks . He was signed directly to the Mavericks. In two seasons, Podkolzin was never able to meet the high expectations and only played six NBA games in that time. In the meantime he was posted to the D-League development league , where he was only used 11 games for the Fort Wayne Flyers . After he was dismissed by the Mavericks in August 2006, he first moved to the Russian top club BK Chimki . He then returned to his hometown club Sibirtelecom Lokomotiv Novosibirsk and, with the exception of the 2010-11 season, played for this until today.
