Pawel Vladimirovich Melnikow ( Russian Павел Владимирович Мельников ; born August 8, 1969 in Novocherkassk , Rostov Oblast ) is a former Russian rower and bronze medalist at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Career

Rowing for Dynamo Saratov, Melnikow competed in the 1996 Olympic Games with the Russian eighth and won the bronze medal behind the Dutch and German eighth. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Melnikow finished 9th with the Russian eighth.

Already in 1987 Melnikow rowed to silver rank with Dimitri Kwartnikow at the Junior World Championships in Cologne in a two-man without a helmsman . From 1990 he belonged to the national team of the open age group. From then on he started internationally almost exclusively in eighth position and took part in this competitive class eight times in rowing world championships from 1990 to 2002 . The best placement was achieved by the Russian team in Canada in 1999 with the bronze medal. When he last participated in the World Cup in 2003 , Melnikov rowed again in a double without with Anton Tschermashenzew in the C-final. At the Rowing World Cup Melnikow was used in 12 competition regattas in the eighth between 1997 and 2002, he won one gold and silver medal and three bronze medals.
