The Payne Creek is a narrow bay on the west side of Bird Iceland before the north-west tip of South Georgia . It is just south of Goldcrest Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1977 after Michael Robert Payne (* 1948), who led the review of the fur seal populations on Bird Island for the British Antarctic Survey between 1971 and 1974 .
