Pearl Chertok
Pearl Chertok (born June 18, 1918 in Laconia / New Hampshire ; † August 1, 1981 in White Plains / New York ) was an American harpist, music teacher and composer.
Chertok studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and taught harp at New York University , Sarah Lawrence College , Manhattanville College, and the State University of New York . She has appeared as a harpist in various formations and on television shows such as The Arthur Godfrey Show and Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town, and composed pieces for her instrument herself (including the Around the Clock Suite ). Sergiu Natra , Carman Petra-Basacopal and Elie Siegmeister composed works for her, among others . Chertok was the founder and president of the American Harp Society .
