Peder Skau (born June 5, 1825 in Sommerstedt , † March 7, 1917 in Fjelstrup ) was a Schleswig-Holstein politician.

Live and act

Peder Skau was the son of the farm owner Jens Lauritzen Skau (1795–1863) and his wife Bodil Kjestine, née Raun (1788–1861). He had a brother named Laurids , who had a decisive influence on his youth and later work. While attending the adult education center in Rødding , he met the politician Christian Flor from 1844 to 1846 , who also shaped him.

During the Schleswig-Holstein survey , Skau worked in communications. On September 26, 1850, he married Caroline Skytt (Schytt) from Hadersleben (* December 17, 1830) in Sommerstedt . His wife died two years later on December 24, 1852 in Sommerstedt.

In 1853 Skau took over the Bukshave farm in Felstrup. On November 9, 1854, he married Christine Dall (born April 27, 1832 in Hovst ) for the second time . Skau was considered a very good farmer and therefore achieved a leading position in the Easter Office. On January 25, 1859, his second wife died in Bukshave . Skau then married Anne Nielsine Christine Braun (born October 19, 1817 in Lintrup ; † July 25, 1879) in third marriage on April 25, 1860 . This marriage also remained childless.

After 1858, Skau moved into the Haldersleben office, which was first formed. He also belonged to this during the reorganization of the district council in 1867. In these committees, he dealt in particular with regulations on roads and taxes. From 1866 to 1888 he had a seat in the provincial parliament .

As an elected member of the Forty-Seven Deputation, Skau got an audience with Wilhelm I in 1866 , during which he wanted to thank the Danish people for the fact that the Peace of Prague promised a referendum on annexation to Denmark . He later gave a lecture on his ideas for this in the language and electoral association of his circle.

When Hans Andersen Krüger repeatedly refused to take the oath of allegiance in the early 1880s , Skau was among the first politicians to publicly criticize this. For this reason he lost his seats in the district and provincial parliament in new elections in the early 1880s. His re-election took place in the next electoral term.

Skau was considered a rhetorically good and valued speaker. Therefore, he often took the lead in difficult discussions and, among other things, acted as spokesman for the population in discussions with Ernst von Köller in 1899 .

memory

For his services to the Danish language in North Schleswig he was given an individual monument on the Skamlingsbanken south of Kolding .
