Pedra da Gávea is a 842 m high rock in the Floresta da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro and is located in Barra da Tijuca . It consists mainly of gneiss and granite . It is the largest single granite block in the world near the sea and more than twice as high as the far more famous Sugar Loaf at 396 m. The rock from Ipanema Beach is partly clearly visible .
