Pedro Bartolome Benoit

Pedro Bartolomé Benoit Vanderhorst (born February 13, 1921 in Samaná , Dominican Republic , † April 5, 2012 in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic) was a Dominican general in the Air Force and for a few days (May 1 to 7, 1965) President of the Dominican Republic Republic during the Civil War of 1965 after the government was dissolved by a triumvirate under General Donald Reid Cabral . He was also, together with Generals Enrique Apolinar Casado Saladín (Army) and Olgo Santana Carrasco (Navy), a member of the junta that ruled the country for a few hours on April 25, 1965.

Benoit was the fifth of ten children of Daysi Vanderhorst and journalist Pedro José Benoit, founder and director of Prensa Local newspaper , which appeared in his hometown for more than 40 years. For over 70 years he was married to Luisa Frómeta, who had died before him and with whom he had three children: Pedro, Luis and Luisa Benoit Frómeta.
