Pedro Machuca
Pedro Machuca (* around 1490 in Toledo ; † August 4, 1550 in Granada ) was a Spanish painter and architect during the Renaissance .
Life
After studying in Florence , where he learned the principles of Renaissance architecture from Giuliano da Sangallo , he returned to Granada (1520). Initially he worked mainly as a painter, but was appointed chief architect of the Alhambra by Emperor Charles V in 1527 and took over the construction of a palace. This palace of Charles V differed significantly from the surrounding Moorish architecture and is an almost classic example of the high renaissance style of Donato Bramante and Raffael . The construction was continued by Machuca's son Luis, but remained unfinished.
