Pedro Pablo León García (born June 23, 1943 in Lima ; † May 9, 2020 there ) was a Peruvian football player .
Career
society
Pedro Pablo León started playing football in his hometown near Alianza Lima . From 1961 he played professionally for Alianza and won the Peruvian championship in 1962, 1963 and 1965. In 1963 and 1967 he was the top scorer in the Primera División .
He stayed with his parent club until 1970. In 1971 León moved to Ecuador for the Barcelona Sporting Club , with whom he won the championship title straight away.
In 1973 he returned to Alianza Lima for a year. In the following years he played in Peru for Juan Aurich , Unión Tumán and Deportivo Municipal . 1978 went abroad again to Deportivo Galicia , where he won the Venezuelan Cup in 1979. There he ended his playing career in 1980.
National team
Between 1963 and 1973, Pedro Pablo León played 49 international matches for the Peruvian national football team , in which he scored 15 goals.
He made his debut in 1963 at the Campeonato Sudamericano in Bolivia , where he scored two goals during the tournament.
On the occasion of the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1970 , he was appointed to the Peruvian squad . In this tournament he was used in all preliminary round matches as well as in the 2-4 defeat in the quarter-finals against eventual world champions Brazil .
He played his last game for the national team on March 28, 1973 in Lima in the Peruvian 1-0 win against Paraguay .

Pedro Pablo León died on May 9, 2020 at the age of 76 in his hometown during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
