Pedro Teixeira (explorer)

Pedro Teixeira (also Pedro Texeira ; *? (According to source: 1563) in Cantanhede , Portugal ; † 1641 or 1645 in Belém , Brazil ) was a globetrotter who came from a marrana family, was an important explorer of America, geographer , explorer and author .

From 1586 to 1605 Teixeira sailed between the Strait of Hormuz and Goa . From 1593 to 1601 he traveled several times by sea to Malacca and Manila , and from there on to Acapulco , after which he returned to Lisbon in October 1601 . In 1603 he made another trip to Goa, this time with a trip home via the Middle East, Italy, France and the Netherlands. In addition, he was the first European to explore the Amazon and the surrounding country along its entire length (well over 6000 km). He later published his travelogues and a history of Persia, based on the writings of Persian historians.
