Pedro de Escobar (also Pedro del Puerto or Pedro de Porto; * between 1465 and 1470 in Porto ; † after 1535 probably in Évora ) was a Portuguese composer.

Life

From 1489 he worked as a singer in the court orchestra of the Castilian royal court under Isabella I. In 1497 Escobar returned to Portugal .

In 1507 he was ordered back to the cathedral chapter of Seville , where he took over the post of Magister Puerorum at the cathedral until his resignation in 1514.

In 1521 he was in Portugal in the service of the monarch Manuel I as a teacher of the boys in the chapel of his son Alfonso. His work can be traced back to 1535.

His musical output was very extensive, but his works were only collected in the very few manuscripts of that era on the Iberian Peninsula.
