The Peenebrücke Jarmen on Landesstraße 35 is a tied arch bridge over the Peene near Jarmen in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The new bridge was opened to traffic at the end of June 2012. Until the completion of the Bundesautobahn 20 and the new construction of the Peene Valley Bridge in the course of the A 20, one of the most important north-south connections in Germany ran over this bridge with the Bundesstraße 96 .

Until the second half of the 19th century there was a ferry connection across the Peene in Jarmen, whose owners are known by name from 1592 to 1863. In 1862 and 1863, a 68 meter long wooden double bascule bridge , similar to the Wiecker bridge , was built. The total costs of 30,273 Prussian Reichstalers were mainly borne by the municipal estates of the Demmin district at that time. The state subsidy was 4,750 thalers. 10,000 thalers alone were paid as a transfer fee to the owner of the previous ferry. In the first few years, a fee was charged for crossing the bridge, the passage was free for ships.

The wooden bridge was dismantled in 1910 and replaced by a concrete arched bascule bridge. This was partially roadworthy until 1965. In its place, a steel bridge was built in 1967 and at the same time the road layout of the former F 96 was relocated from the city to the east. The three-span construction had a total span of around 164 meters and the cross-section was a steel box girder with an orthotropic carriageway slab without cross members.

The steel bridge was extensively repaired between 1995 and 1997. With the relocation of long-distance traffic to the A 20 and the motorway bridge completed in 2001, the importance of the B 96 decreased. Finally, the main road leading over the bridge was downgraded to a state road in 2006.

The new construction of the Peene Bridge planned by the State Office for Road Construction and Transport has been implemented since 2010. In the meantime, a three-span makeshift truss bridge ( D-bridge ) made it possible for regional traffic to cross the Peene on Landesstraße 35. On December 6th and 7th, 2011, the arched rod was floated in over the Peene with the help of a heavy-duty pontoon. On June 26, 2012, the new bridge was opened to traffic. The total cost of the new building was 12.2 million euros.

construction

The new bridge consists of two sections. The main part is a steel arched bridge with a composite deck and a span of 114.3 meters. The second part is a prestressed concrete girder bridge with a two-web T-beam cross- section and 45 meters span.
