Peer Michael Schatz (born August 3, 1965 in New York City ) is an Austrian - American manager. Until October 2019 he was chairman of the board of QIAGEN NV

Life

Growing up in the USA and Switzerland, Schatz studied economics and social sciences after graduating from high school at the Swiss University of St. Gallen . In 1989 he completed his studies as lic.oec. and in 1990 also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago . His first professional years were characterized by various positions at Sandoz and Computerland as well as by participation in and co-founding of several start-up companies in the IT industry in Switzerland, Germany and the USA.

In 1993, Schatz moved to Qiagen . From 2004 to 2019 he was the company's CEO .

Until 2011, Schatz was a member of the government organization of the German Corporate Governance Code and a member of the management board of PMS Asset Management GmbH. He is on the boards of directors of the American industrial organizations AdvaMedDx and ALDA (Analytical, Life Science & Diagnostics Association). Since June 2008 he has also been a member of the advisory board for the MBA course in Business Integration at the University of Würzburg. From 2002 to 2004 he was a member of the Exchange Council of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Schatz is married to the Swiss Nadine Schatz-Grandjean-Perrenoud-Contesse - she is also a graduate of the University of St. Gallen. He is the son of the biochemist and co-discoverer of mitochondrial DNA , Gottfried Schatz .
