etymology

The Hebrew personal name פְּקַחְיָה pəqaḥjāh “Pekachja” is a verb sentence name, consisting of subject and predicate. Subject (and at the same time theophoric element)יָה jāh , German ' JHWH ' , the predicate is from the verb rootפּקח pqḥ , German 'open' can be derived. The name can be translated as "YHWH has opened". This relates to the birth of the name bearer: God is the one who opens the womb. The Septuagint gives the name as Φακεϊας Phakeïas , the Vulgate as Phaceia .

Biblical narration

Pekahiah was the son of Menahem , whom he succeeded to the throne. The short biblical account of his rule in 2 Kings 15 : 23-26  EU only notes that Pekahiah "did what displeased the Lord", so that he was soon overthrown by Pekach , the son of Remaliah, and slain in the royal palace of Samaria .
