Pelargonium schizopetalum belonging to the genus Pelargonium within the family of geraniaceae (Geraniaceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The species grows as a geophyte with elongated and mostly branched tubers and is up to 50 centimeters high at flowering time. Very short shoots are formed. The dark green leaves are covered with glands and have a felty surface. They are egg-shaped, provided with a heart-shaped base and cut very deep, almost to the midrib. The stipules are sub-shaped.
Generative characteristics
The unbranched inflorescence is clearly covered with hair and consists of 5 to 20 individual flowers. Green sepals are formed on the very long flower cup , which bend back abruptly. Five fringed and pale yellow or yellow-green colored petals are formed, which are provided with red or purple stripes. The upper two petals are occasionally less intensely colored than the lower. Five fertile stamens of unequal length are formed. The pollen is colored bright orange.
Occurrence
Pelargonium schizopetalum comes from the South African province of Eastern Cape .
Taxonomy
The first description of the species was in 1824 by Robert Sweet .
Synonyms are Geraniospermum schizopetalum (Sweet) Kuntze , Polyactium uitenhagense Ecklon & Zeyer , Pelargonium uitenhagense (Ecklon & Zeyer) Steudel and Pelargonium woodii R.Knuth .
