Shaivonte Aician "Shai" Gilgeous-Alexander (born July 12, 1998 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian basketball player who is currently under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the US professional league NBA .

career

Gilgeous-Alexander's mother Charmaine Gilgeous was a 400-meter runner on the Olympic team of Antigua and Barbudas at the 1992 Summer Games . He played basketball at Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School in Hamilton (province of Ontario ) in 2015 he moved to the United States to his basketball training at the Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga (State Tennessee ) continue. First he accepted the University of Florida , but changed his decision and ultimately went to the University of Kentucky . There he played under coaching luminary John Calipari , who is known for paving the way for numerous talents into the NBA .

Gilgeous-Alexander stayed at the University of Kentucky for only one season. In this only season in the first division of the NCAA , the Canadian was Kentucky's second best scorer (14.4 points per game), best assists (5.1 assists per encounter) and best player on his team in the ball wins category (1.6 steals each Lot). In April 2018 he announced his move to the professional camp.

NBA

The Charlotte Hornets secured the rights to the Canadian in the 2018 NBA Draft , who was selected in eleventh place. However, Charlotte Gilgeous-Alexander gave up shortly thereafter against Miles Bridges and future draft rights to the Los Angeles Clippers . The Canadian was a newcomer to the NBA in 82 games in the 2018/19 game year and scored an average of 10.8 points for the Californians, made 3.3 basket hits from fellow players and brought 2.8 rebounds per encounter.

In July 2019, the Canadian and his teammate Danilo Gallinari were given over from Los Angeles to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of an exchange deal . With 20 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in a 117:10 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 13, 2020, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 20 points and rebounds and 10 assists in a game.

In 2016 he won silver at the American Championship with the Canadian U18 national team.
