Pele is an active eruptive center on the surface of Jupiter's moon Io . It was named after the Hawaiian volcanic deity Pele . The volcanic formation is located at the 18th parallel to the south and at the 255th longitude to the west and consists of a furrow 30 km long and 20 km wide. It lies on the northern side of the rugged Danube Planum plateau .

A lava lake made of basaltic lava fills part of the furrow, which emits enormous amounts of energy into space . This lake is also the source of a plume of smoke and dust that shoots 300 km into space before prostrating in a ring 600 km around it.
