Penalva de Alva is a small town ( Vila ) and former municipality ( Freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( Concelho ) of Oliveira do Hospital . On June 30, 2011 the community had 953 inhabitants on an area of 11.8 km².
Until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the following Miguelistenkrieg , the place was the seat of an independent district, in order to be a parish of the district of Oliveira do Hospital since the middle of the 19th century.
In the course of the municipal reorganization of Portugal on September 29, 2013, the municipality of Penalva de Alva was merged with São Sebastião da Feira to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Penalva de Alva e São Sebastião da Feira . The seat of the new municipality was Penalva de Alva.
