description
Pennington & Baines of London manufactured these vehicles between 1898 and 1899 and marketed them as Pennington . They are considered the successor to the Pennington Autocar . Visually, but not technically, they resembled the Kane-Pennington Victoria from the American Racine Motor Vehicle Company .
In contrast to its predecessor, the vehicle had four wheels. A single cylinder engine with 3.5 HP propelled the vehicles. The front-wheel drive and the steering of the rear wheels were unusual . At first, the engine power was transmitted via ropes and later via belts.
The body was open and offered space for two people. The original price was under £ 100 .
A total of three vehicles were built.
Hubert W. Egerton, who had experience with various vehicles on longer journeys, started with a Raft Victoria in Manchester towards London . About halfway, in Nuneaton , he gave up. He had used 72 spark plugs . Nowadays the shortest route from Manchester to Nuneaton is 140 km.
