from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pennington was a British vehicle brand. Before and after, there was the vehicle brand of the same name in the USA, Pennington .

Brand history

It was named after Edward Joel Pennington . Originally from the USA, he came to England in November 1895 . He met Henry John Lawson .

Chronological sequence

Together with Lawson he ran the Great Horseless Carriage Company in Coventry from 1896 to 1897 . Incidentally, this company also manufactured vehicles of the MMC brand from 1897 and was later renamed several times. During this time they produced five Pennington Autocar vehicles . One was registered for the London – Brighton Emancipation Run in November 1896, but could not start.

William Baines was the sales agent for these vehicles in London . Between 1898 and 1899 Pennington and Baines operated Pennington & Baines in London. The only model was the Pennington Raft Victoria . One received a body from Stirling's Motor Carriages and was sometimes called Stirling-Pennington . According to the company, there were 400 orders. Potential buyers had paid down payments and were waiting for delivery. When they increased the pressure, Pennington dissolved the company. A total of three vehicles were built.

Pennington founded the Pennington Motor Company in London in 1899 . It is not known whether this company manufactured anything. It was dissolved again in the same year.

Pennington moved back to the USA.

Received vehicles

One vehicle of the Autocar type has been preserved. It is on display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu in the south of England.
