John Tavendale was a British manufacturer of bicycles and automobiles .

Company history

John Tavendale was a mill builder . He made bicycles in Laurencekirk in the company that bore his name. In 1899 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was initially Mearns Motor , later St. Laurence . Automobile production ended in 1902. A total of about seven vehicles were built.

He named the first vehicle Mearns Motor . A built-in engine from Endurance Motor powered the vehicle. The body was in the style of a dogcart and was noticeably high.

About six smaller vehicles than St. Laurence followed . A single cylinder engine from Accles-Turrell Autocars with 6 HP power propelled the vehicles.
