JB Petter & Sons was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Yeovil-based company originally made engines. In 1895 the production of automobiles began. The brand names were Petter and Yeovil . From 1897 production at the carriage manufacturer Hill & Boll took place in the same place. Production ended in 1898. A total of around twelve vehicles were built. One vehicle took part in the Emancipation Run , now known as the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run , in 1896 . In 1957 the company was taken over by Hawker Siddeley . In 1984 it was merged with RA Lister and Company to form Lister Petter .

In 1895 Petter brought out a small car with a single cylinder engine . The 3 HP corresponded in design and quality to the products of many other contemporary automobile manufacturers who later became market leaders. The 6 HP model soon replaced this first vehicle with a more powerful two-cylinder engine . A model with an electric motor was also created .
