Iris (car brand)
Iris was a British automobile brand.
Company history
Lucien Alphonse Legros and Guy Knowles founded Legros & Knowles Ltd. in 1904 . in the London borough of Willesden . You worked in the field of transmissions and vehicle repairs. In the same year they presented two vehicles at the Olympia Show under the brand name Legros & Knowles , which, however, were not up to date. Ivon de Havilland designed a new model that was presented in November 1905 under the brand name Iris . Series production began. Iris Cars Ltd. was founded in 1907 as a sales company. Its collapse in 1908 led to the establishment of a new Iris Cars Ltd. in 1909 . , which is also Legros & Knowles Ltd. took over. The company was headed by George Augustus Mower and was based in Aylesbury . CK Edwards was the designer until 1911, then Frank T. Burgess. In 1913 the plant in Willesden was given up, which at last only produced parts. Production ended with the outbreak of the First World War . The last vehicle was made in 1919, but three models were offered until 1925. Presumably only one of this stamp has survived to this day.

Brand name Iris
The Iris were luxury vehicles with large, water-cooled, four-cylinder in- line engines . Between 1906 and 1908 a six-cylinder model 40 HP was built , but it was probably only built once. Striking feature of all models was the radiator grille in diamond shape . The brand emblem showed flowers in green and blue from 1909 , designed by Clive Harrington.
