AW Dougill & Co. Ltd. was a British automobile manufacturer .

Company history

The Leeds company started producing automobiles in 1896. The brand names were Dougill , Loidis and Frick . Production ended in 1907.

Brand name Dougill

Between 1896 and 1898, the company made a few prototypes . The motors were mounted in the rear and driven a shaft via belts and from there the rear axle via a chain. In 1899 Dougill made a few copies of the Lawson Motor Wheel for Harry Lawson. This was a drive unit with a motor, tires, tank and brake, with which non-motorized vehicles could be motorized. The low engine output of 3 hp was only sufficient for light two-seaters. Dougill made some tricycles.

Brand name Loidis

Loidis was the name of vehicles that were built between 1900 and 1904. Two models were on offer. In the smaller model, a drive cylinder engine of De Dion-Bouton 6 hp to the vehicles. In the larger model came a two-cylinder engine of Aster with 1,703 cc displacement and 9 hp used. The gearbox came from the Fafnir works .

Brand name Frick

Passenger cars were built under this brand name between 1904 and 1906 and commercial vehicles until 1907 . The smallest model was the 7 HP , presented in 1904 or 1906. A single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1099 cm³ was connected to a friction transmission based on a patent from Maurer-Union . The engine power was ultimately transferred to the rear axle via a chain. The wheelbase was 1829 mm.

The medium model was the 8/12 HP , introduced in 1905 or 1906. Its two-cylinder engine with the same cylinder dimensions had a displacement of 2199 cm³. With a wheelbase of 2057 to 2438 mm, the vehicle was also larger in terms of dimensions.

There was also the 12/18 HP in 1906 . Its three- cylinder engine also had the same cylinder dimensions, i.e. 3299 cc. The wheelbase was 2667 mm.
