Company history

Charles Burgon and James Ball founded the company in Sheffield in 1866 . First sheep shearing machines were created based on a patent from James Ball. In 1898 the company became a stock corporation . The work was then called La Plata . In 1903, the production of automobiles began under the direction of Benjamin Hinds. The brand name was La Plata . Automobile production ended in 1906. A total of 16 vehicles were built: four in 1903, eleven in 1904 and 1905, and one in 1906. The company continues to manufacture clippers and garden tools today.

The company obtained chassis from various French manufacturers from Boulogne , Niort (presumably Automobiles Barré ) and Paris (presumably Lacoste & Battmann ). OEM engines from De Dion-Bouton drove the models 6 HP and 9 HP on. The 12 HP received an engine from Aster . In 1905 the Tricar model appeared , named after a tricycle with an engine with 3 HP . One vehicle was bodied by Laycock .
