Volk's Electric Tramway Ltd. was a British company.

Company history

The company was founded by Magnus Volk in Brighton . It produced the world's oldest surviving railroad, Volk's Electric Railway and Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway . In 1887 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Volk . Automobile production ended in 1895. In total, only a few copies were made.

Automobiles

The company made electric cars. The first vehicle was a tricycle with a single front wheel. The 0.5 hp electric motor came from Acme & Immisch Electrical Works . The engine drove the rear axle via a chain. Job Pack from the Sussex Coach Works made the body from walnut wood . The open body offered space for four people in a dos-à-dos arrangement. The maximum speed was given as 15 km / h.

In 1895 a vehicle was built for Sultan Abdülhamid II. This vehicle had a narrow front gauge. The engine came again from Acme & Immisch and this time made 1 hp.
